Transcription: converting something from one form to another — like the spoken voice being actively listened to and typed out— hearing a CD or digital file over headphones then writing down with pen and paper the lyrics — recording a vinyl LP from a turntable to a reel to reel for broadcasting or home enjoyment — or transcribing music by ear and playing along with it.

Transcription Electronics is a collaboration between Gig Harbor Audio and Paul Birkeland. Our goal is the correct, accurate, faithful reproduction of the human voice and music through amplification of analog sources. These are tools in the process of transcription: handmade in the USA, bulletproof build quality, and constant evolution of product.

We are currently offering a 211 Power Amplifier and a 6SN7 Pre Amplifier. In the near future we will be offering a 300B power amplifier, a moving magnet phono stage, and a 300B integrated amplifier. All tube. The benefits of tube amplification are too numerous to list on one page; suffice it to say that we consider the technology of a tube amplifier as one of the highest levels of innovation and the best tool to achieve a sincere representation of the fragile/strong human voice.

Paul Birkeland does not just design and build amplifiers, he pushes the limits of what he thinks can be done, then he does it again, further... He is the chief electronics technician at Bottlehead Corporation and has an informative, transparent blog on HiFiHaven.org. The team at Gig Harbor Audio is proud to have him as a partner and a friend.
